📖 History & Description

Goindwal Sahib was developed by Guru Amar Das and became a central hub for the Sikh community in the 16th century. The Baoli (stepwell) with 84 steps is the most notable architectural and devotional feature; pilgrims traditionally recite the Japji Sahib on each step. The larger gurdwara complex contains shrines commemorating Guru Amar Das and subsequent Gurus and has long been a centre of religious learning, pilgrimage and community service.
